Susan Winter has been hard at work. She has been commissioned by  the Harriet and Kenneth Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives to develop a show that would coincide with the current exhibit. The Center, located at Queensborough Community College, uses lessons from the Holocaust to educate current and future generations about the ramifications of unbridled prejudice and racism. Rise Up Singing is an eclectic program of inspiring songs from Broadway, Yiddish Theater, the folk world, movies and more about the universal struggle. Susan and her musical team, headed by in demand musical director, Alex Rybeck, have created a program to raise awareness that music, as political, social and cultural commentary, can also be used to enlighten and uplift. The show is directed by Barry Kleinbort and will be presented at the center on May 25, 2011. For more information, contact the Kupferberg Center at (718) 281-5770; Dr. Arthur Flug, Executive Director.

Having grown up in an era of classic black and white TV, Bistro and MAC winner, Susan Winter is a long time fan and aficionado of movie classics. Claiming she learned to sing the Great American Songbook while watching Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Gene Kelly and even James Cagney, she is paying homage to that wonderful bygone time in ,”Million Dollar Matinee.” Singing arrangements by Musical Director, Rick Jensen, who will be at the piano, directed by Lina Koutrakos, this show garnered Susan her first MAC nomination. Like the movies she loved to watch over and over again, Susan is thrilled to be revisiting at “Million Dollar Matinee.”
